What To Expect From Disney Parks in 2025 (and beyond)

Disney Parks in 2025 – Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17, 1955 and quickly became a place for families to experience the magic of Disney. With its success we then got Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in October of 1971.

Through the years the World of Disney has continued to grow and evolve and today as it stands there are 6 Disney Castle Parks plus 6 additional Disney parks totaling 12 theme parks around the world.

Just as the number of parks have continued to grow, the parks themselves have become ever evolving through the years. Whether it is refurbishments of Disney classics, additions of new rides, shows, and attractions, or reimaginations of current experiences, it seems there is always something evolving at one of the Disney Parks.

Today we are going to be sharing with you some of the upcoming plans and additions that you can expect from Disney Parks in 2025 and even further!

We will break it down by Park so if there is a park that is not included in our list it is because there are no current confirmed plans that have been announced for that park.

New Additions To the Disney Parks in 2025

Disneyland/California Adventure – Anaheim, California

Disney Parks in 2025

Let’s start with the OG. There are some big plans coming to the Anaheim area in these next couple of years. On May 24,2024 the DisneylandForward project was officially approved to allow for expansion around the Anaheim theme parks.

This expansion is expected to bring new attractions and experiences featuring some of your favorite Disney and Pixar characters from the most recent generation.

There have not been any definitive plans revealed just yet but what we know so far is that this is expected to be a multi-year evolving project and there have been rumors that this expansion will include new lands potentially themed after Avatar, Frozen, Tangled, Tron and more.

Other potential ideas include rides and attractions that feature some of our Pixar favorites such as Coco and Toy Story.

It’s safe to say we can expect to see a lot of new and exciting things coming to Disneyland and California Adventure in 2025 and beyond.

Walt Disney World – Orlando, FL

2024 has been great thus far fo the Walt Disney World parks with the reintroduction of Disney Dining Plans, the announcement of the new skip the line pass, Disney’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass (Launching July 24,2024), and the grand opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (formerly known as Splash Mountain) at Magic Kingdom, and the reimagining of the Country Bear Jamboree (Coming Summer 2024!)

But there are some pretty exciting things expected for the future as well and we’re happy to share what we know about these upcoming plans.

There are some new and exciting things coming to Walt Disney World parks in the upcoming years.. On June 17, 2024 Test Track at Epcot closed to begin its refurbishment.

Test Track was previously reimagined in 2012 and is now again expected to be reimagined into a new experience inspired by the World of Motion, the original attraction that was where Test Track currently stands.

We don’t know exactly what to expect but we’re excited to see what Test Track 3.0 has to offer when it reopens, expected to be sometime in the first half of 2025. The ride sponsor will continue to be Chevrolet.

Making our way over to Magic Kingdom, we are getting a little bit of extra love to one of the park’s classic favorites, Pirates of the Caribbean.

Don’t worry! Nothing is happening to the beloved ride we all know but the Magic Kingdom is adding a new dining establishment located near the ride known as the Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern. There have been rumors that the tavern will have similarities to the operations of Oga’s Tavern in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios.

There are a few changes that are expected to happen at Animal Kingdom. It has been confirmed  that Dinoland, U.S.A. will soon be transformed into the “Tropical Americas” and there are some reimaginings of attractions including Primeval Whirl, TriceraTop Spin and DINOSAUR that are expected to come with the new land. Rumored inspirations include Encanto and the Indiana Jones franchise.

In addition to the Tropical Americas, we have also gotten confirmation that the opening day attraction, It’s Tough to be a Bug, located in the Tree of Life, will be reimagined into the Zootopia Tree of Life Show.

Disney has not announced an official closing date yet but we expect to bid farewell to  It’s Tough to Be a Bug sometime by the end of 2024 for its reimagining.

While we’re sad to see some classic rides leave the parks, we’re excited to see what the new offerings will bring!

Disneyland Tokyo Resort

The Disneyland Tokyo Resort recently had a HUGE addition to their Tokyo DisneySea park with the opening of Fantasy Springs on June 6, 2024. This brand new land features 4 new attractions from a few of our favorite Disney films including Peter Pan, Tangled, and Frozen.

With just coming off of such a large expansion project there are not a ton of new additions coming to the parks that are currently in the works, but there is one and it’s a pretty significant one!

Space Mountain is a fan favorite at all of the Disney Parks around the world and that is no different in Tokyo. While the ride as it stands is a great attraction, the Disneyland Tokyo resort has decided to reimagine and completely rebuild the ride with more thrills and more modern effects for a fun and thrilling ride!

The current attraction is expected to close at the end of July and the re-opening is currently slated to return in 2027. The new attraction will be in a completely new building and the current structure will be entirely demolished, which will make room for the brand new Tomorrowland Square.

We can’t wait to see what this new Tomorrowland will look like for Tokyo visitors!

Disneyland Paris/Disney Studios Park

If you visit any Disney Parks rankings, you will likely see Walt Disney Studios Park, a part of the Disneyland Paris resort, near the bottom of the list. This park originally opened in 2002 and has not been up to many’s standards.

Disney has heard the criticism and the park is expected to get a complete overhaul with nearly 90% of the park being impacted including a renaming of the park.

Disney Studios Park will be known as Disney Adventure World in the future and there will be new lands and attractions to love including the World of Frozen, a Tangled inspired ride, Raiponce Tangled Spin, and a brand new show known as Alice & the Queen of Hearts: Back to Wonderland. This is a phased project that does not have a definitive completion date at this time.

This park has received a lot of criticism over the years but we feel that between the latest additions of Worlds of Pixar and Marvel Avengers Campus in combination with these upcoming plans, Disney Studios Park will soon become much more popular among Paris travelers!

Shanghai Disneyland Resort

The latest addition to the Shanghai Disneyland Resort was the opening of Zootopia land which debuted near the end of 2023!

Earlier this year they have made an announcement that they are currently planning to open a brand new attraction near Zootopia land but it will be separately themed.

They have not revealed any additional details but with the announcement they mentioned the Year of the Dragon! Some of the predictions on the Disney message boards include an Avengers or Avatar themed attraction!

What do you think the theme for this new attraction could be? We can’t wait to see how the plans continue to unfold and we get to see just what the Disney Imagineers conjure up!

As avid Disney goers, it is always sad to see the classic rides and attractions close or become reimagined but Disney continues to release excellent films and clearing out some of the old to  make room for the new isn’t so bad!

We’re excited to see how Disney continues to evolve and develop in the upcoming years. We anticipate that we will continue to gain more information and get some new announcements and plans at the upcoming D23 event this August 9, 10, and 11 in Anaheim, California.

As Walt Said “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” So you can bet your bottom dollar that we will continue to see not only Disneyland but all of the Disney Parks around the world continue to grow and change in the future.

Which Disney Parks addition are you most excited for? Are there any plans or updates that we missed? We would love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment for us and other readers, let’s discuss!
